10th Mountain Brigade received French mortars
Ukrainian Mountain infantrymen received French MO-120-RT mortars.
Footage of these mortars was shown by soldiers from the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade.
These mortars, which can be towed, have a caliber of 120 mm.
“The guys from the 109th Battalion showcased how they destroy the enemy with the help of a French mortar,” the 10th Mountain Brigade reported.
According to the military, a French-made mortar usually hits targets at 8.5 kilometers with a conventional mortar round.
The mortar uses standard NATO ammunition, as well as one specially designed for it.
Mines have several defeat modes and can perform different tasks on the battlefield, depending on the settings.
The same munition can be used as shrapnel, fragmentation or high explosive: it all depends on the setting of the electric fuze.
In the released footage, the Ukrainian military uses American M1101 mortar rounds for a French mortar.
The MO-120-RT61 towed mortar entered service with the French Army in 1973. Structurally, the RT61 consists of a rifled barrel with a breech, a base plate and a carriage with a wheel stroke.
When firing, the wheels are not separated, which makes it easy to roll the mortar in the case of a change of position.
Horizontal and vertical guidance devices, a horizontal mechanism, and clips with shock absorbers are mounted on the carriage. The base plate not only provides the mortar with stability when firing. A central assembly of the rotating plate makes it possible to conduct an all-around fire without its rearrangement.
