The Polish military received two more M142 HIMARS artillery rocket system launchers.

Mariusz Błaszczak, Minister of Defense of Poland, announced the arrival of a new batch of this American weaponry on Twitter.

The systems will strengthen the combat potential and capabilities of Polish rocket artillery units.

According to the Minister, Poland received components of the Patriot air defense system along with the two HIMARS.

“Two more M142 HIMARS launchers and other components of the PATRIOT/IBCS system have been delivered to Poland. These supplies are carried out under the Homar and Wisła programs, aimed at significantly strengthening Polish rocket artillery and air defense,” Błaszczak tweeted on May 24.

The first five M142 HIMARS were delivered to Poland on May 15. The equipment transfer ceremony took place at the 1st Transport Aviation Base of the Polish Air Force.

The transfer of launchers occurs under the contract signed in February 2019.

In total, the Polish military will receive 20 HIMARS launchers and ammunition for them.

In addition, the agreement suggests logistical, educational, and technical assistance. All launchers will be delivered by the end of the year.

Polish military personnel who will work with HIMARS have already undergone appropriate training in the United States.

These HIMARS are received by the troops of the 1st Artillery Brigade of the 16th Mechanized Division, responsible for the defense of the so-called Suwalki Gap. It connects the territory of the Baltic states with Poland and the rest of NATO, and separates the Russian Kaliningrad region and Belarus.

The HIMARS service and production center might also be established in Poland. The country could also become a maintenance hub for US Multiple Rocket Launchers, including those used by US forces stationed in Europe as well as allies.
