A unit of special-purpose unmanned systems “Typhoon” has been created in Ukraine
A new unit of special-purpose unmanned aerial systems called Typhoon was presented in Kyiv.
The presentation of the unit of the National Guard of Ukraine took place at the Art Ukraine Gallery, Ukrinform reported.
A separate unit will perform its tasks only with unmanned systems of various types.
The Typhoon team consists of experienced veterans of various Special Forces units.
Lieutenant Colonel Maksym Skliar, Head of the Unmanned Systems Department of the National Guard of Ukraine, introduced the members of the Typhoon team, including
- Mykhailo Kmetiuk, commander with the call sign “Michael”;
- Pavlo Hvozdenko, deputy commander for combat training, call sign “Minister”;
- Liliia, head of civil-military cooperation of the detachment, call sign ‘Troy’;
- Chief of Staff, codenamed ‘Kyiv’, Oleksandr;
- Ruslan, deputy commander, call sign ‘Iron’.
The Typhoon’s main task will be to provide operational support to combat brigades.
“Our groups will be able to maneuver quickly while performing combat missions. We are integrating the latest unmanned systems into our unit,” the unit says.
The unit’s commander also plans to invite various drone manufacturers to submit proposals.
According to him, the advantage of serving in the Typhoon unit is a guaranteed transition to it after selection and basic training, the ability to choose a service option and constant training.
“We are growing, today there are several dozen of us. We expect that by spreading the word, we will reach the number of people we need to recruit. I will not disclose it for security reasons, but we will grow,” the unit said.
The unit is provided with military equipment by the state and foundations.
In August, the government allocated an additional UAH 24 billion for the purchase of drones for the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
