The remnants of the Russian invasion forces, which were in the Lyman area, are now trying to build new fortifications in Kreminna, Luhansk region.

Serhii Cherevaty, Spokesman for the Operational Command “East” reported about this, NV writes.

Ukrainian forces managed to capture part of the invaders who were surrounded in the city of Lyman, Donetsk region. Another part was neutralized.

On the air of the national telethon, when asked about reports of the encirclement of a large number of Russian invaders in the Lyman direction, the spokesman of the command answered that “some of them were physically eliminated, some were captured, and some were able to leave in certain columns or small groups.”

Some groups of Russian forces are now trying to occupy the defense in Kreminna in the Luhansk region.

According to Serhii Cherevaty, the Artillery and Rocket Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are doing their best to prevent the invaders from building fortifications.

Also, Ukrainian units continue stabilization work in the liberated Lyman, because the remnants of the group of invasion forces are hiding in the surrounding forests.

In addition, demining operations are ongoing, as the area is heavily mined.

According to analysts of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the Russian invasion forces withdrew from their positions northeast of Lyman, probably to positions around Kreminna and along the route P66 Svatove – Kreminna, to create a new line of defense to prevent the advance of the Defense Forces of Ukraine on temporarily occupied Luhansk region.

The fighting near Kreminna is also of strategic importance. Now the Russians are trying to keep under their control an important logistical artery running from the south of Svatove to Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk, and supplying their units in the Luhansk region as well as in the north of Donetsk.

On October 2, Volodymyr Zelensky officially announced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated the city of Lyman in Donetsk region. He emphasized that the settlement was completely cleared from the invaders. Ukrainian servicemen entered the city on October 1.

Before that, Ukrainian troops took control of five settlements around Lyman and completed the encirclement of the Russian group.
