Australia has shipped six 155-mm lightweight howitzers and associated ammunition to Ukraine.

Militarnyi informs about this.

According to the Defense Brief, the Australian Ministry of Defense has transferred six 155-mm lightweight howitzers and associated ammunition to Ukraine.

Support for Ukraine in the form of transfer of howitzers has been provided for defence against a full-scale Russian invasion.

It is stated that yesterday, the howitzers were loaded on a C-17A Globemaster III military transport aircraft at the RAAF Base Amberley in Queensland for their delivery to Ukraine.

“The Australian government will continue to identify opportunities for further military assistance where it is able to provide a required capability to the Ukraine Armed Forces expeditiously,” Scott Morrison, Australian Prime Minister said.

Australia is transferring howitzers to Ukraine after it handed over the MRAP Bushmaster PMV armored vehicles, anti-tank weapons and ammunition to Ukraine.

Other military equipment, rations, medical supplies and financial contributions were also donated to the NATO Trust Fund for Ukraine, which is also part of Australia’s assistance, which now stands at AUD 225 million.

The M777 is a 155-mm howitzer with a manual charge and a rapid rate of fire of 5 rounds per minute. Depending on the type of round used, the howitzer has a range of between 24 and 30 kilometers.

It was previously reported that Canada will be handing over the M777 howitzers and ammunition to Ukraine, including the newest Excalibur extended-range GPS-guided shells.

Canada has also shipped an unspecified amount of 155-mm ammunition.
