French CAESAR 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzers are already on the territory of Ukraine and are being used against the enemy.

This is evidenced by a video shared by Ukrainian servicemen on social media.

The video footage captures the howitzer being used in combat. On one of the shells, the soldiers wrote “For Mariupol!”

Probably, the French ACS are part of one of the artillery brigades’ equipment. Roman Sinitsyn, a volunteer of the Serhiy Prytula Foundation, shared on his Twitter account: “One of the artillery brigades has had these ACSs for a long time.”

Taras Chmut, Director of the Come Back Alive Foundation, clarified that these ACS have been in Ukraine for a long time: “So what about CAESARs? They have been giving hell in action for a month now.”

The transfer of CAESAR ACS from France to Ukraine was announced on April 22, 2022. In an interview, French President Emanuel Macron mentioned that the supplies for Ukraine include a variety of weapons “from Milan (Milan ATGM – ed.) to Caesar”, and the plan was to continue doing so in the future.

The French media suggested that a division of these ACS (12 units) would be delivered. Ukrainian servicemen were trained to use them in France.

On May 18, Macron stated that the supply of arms to Ukraine would increase.

CAESAR is a French 155-mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer developed by the GIAT Industries. Its serial production was launched in 2007. 72 units of it were delivered to the French army.

The barrel length is 52 calibers. It is carrying 18 rounds of ammunition. The rate of fire is 6 shots per minute. Caesar is able to use the full range of NATO 155-mm artillery shells.

The Renault Sherpa 5 6×6 is used as the French army ACS chassis.
