Canada hands over 2 mine clearing vehicles to Ukraine

Ukrainian sappers have received two mine clearing vehicles from the Canadian government.

Serhiy Kruk, Head of the State Emergency Service, made the announcement.

According to him, Ukrainian sappers are already undergoing training with this vehicles.

These vehicles will soon be delivered to the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

“During the G7 Leaders’ Summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and thanked him for providing assistance in demining Ukraine.

So far, we have already received two mine clearing vehicles from the Canadian government. Our sappers are already undergoing training and soon the vehicles will go to Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions,” Kruk wrote in Telegram.

In early May, the Canadian Embassy in Ukraine reported that Ukraine had received the first batch of mine clearing vehicles from the Canadian government.

The equipment was transferred to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

These are unmanned, remote-controlled GCS-200 mine clearing vehicles produced by the Swiss Global Clearance Solutions (GCS). With the help of the attached equipment, these vehicles carry out mechanical demining of territories.

According to the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, mechanical mine clearing vehicles of various types have already proven their effectiveness. Such vehicles significantly speed up demining processes and ensure the lives of Ukrainian sappers.

The GCS-200 mine clearing vehicle is able to clear the territory of explosive objects, carry out light earthworks, transport cargo, excavate soil and uproot trees.

The system consists of a tracked tractor with remote control and attachments. Work tools can be easily connected and disconnected on the vehicle in just a few minutes. The Swiss Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) will deliver about 20 mine clearing vehicles to Ukraine.
