China completed days of military exercises around Taiwan and promised to conduct further regular drills
The military of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) has completed its four-day training around the island of Taiwan.
The Guardian reports about this.
The People’s Republic of China reported that from now on, these military trainings will be conducted regularly.
China’s live-fire drills started the day after Nancy Pelosi, US House of Representatives Speaker, visited the island.
A Chinese state television commentator mentioned that the Chinese military would now be conducting “regular” drills and that the “historic task” of China’s “reunification” could be implemented.
The training zones identified by China were located around Taiwan and, in places, overlapped areas that Taiwan considers its territorial waters.
Before the maneuvers began, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army stated that the naval and air exercises will be conducted to the north, southwest, and southeast of the Republic of China.
Taiwanese authorities accused China of, in effect, conducting a blockade. Taiwan’s Ministry of Defence claimed that its Armed Forces were operating in the usual mode and monitoring its surroundings.
As previously reported, on August 2, prior to the visit of Nancy Pelosi to the Republic of China, the Ministry of Defense of Taiwan increased its level of combat readiness level.
Mainland China (PRC) has repeatedly warned against Pelosi’s trip to the island of Taiwan, which it considers its own rebellious territory. The United States stated on Monday that it would not be deterred by the Chinese “arms rattling” during the visit.
Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman stated that Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan would be a “gross interference in China’s internal affairs” and warned that “China’s People’s Liberation Army will never sit idly by.”
On Thursday, July 28, US leaders Joe Biden and China’s Xi Jinping had a telephone conversation. The President of the People’s Republic of China indicated, in particular, China’s principled position on the “Taiwan issue”, stating that the People’s Republic of China opposes the independence of Taiwan along with the interference of external forces in the situation in any form.
