Denmark announces 15th military aid package for Ukraine

The Danish government announced a new tranche of military aid to Ukraine, which will include artillery shells and air defense ammunition.

The Danish Ministry of Defense reported on this.

Denmark will finance a major new military aid package of approximately DKK 1.7 billion ($247.4 million), which will be the 15th since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

Through contact with the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic, the Danish Ministry of Defense has funded the purchase of 15,000 units of 155-mm artillery ammunition, which will be delivered to Ukraine within a few months.

“Ukraine continues to need assistance, not least in artillery ammunition. With the 15th aid package, Denmark is making a financial contribution to the purchase of weapons and ammunition both through other countries, including the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, and through continued cooperation with the Danish defense industry,” Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said.

Previously, on February 17, Czech President Petr Pavel shared that his country had discovered about 800,000 artillery shells abroad ready for sale.

According to the Czech President, the country’s representatives managed to find about 500,000 155-mm artillery shells and 300,000 122-mm shells abroad. They could be transported to Ukraine in a matter of weeks, but funding remains a problem.

Air defense

Danish officials also announced the transfer of equipment and ammunition for unnamed air defense systems to Ukraine.

This presumably refers to the AIM-9 and AIM-120 missiles in service with the country and used for Ukraine’s NASAMS systems.

In addition, the package will include demining equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles, radars, communications equipment, and equipment for drones from Danish companies.

In total, the new tranche provides for the use of the fund in the amount of DKK 1,738 million in 2024-2026, of which DKK 886 million will be used in 2024, DKK 796 million in 2025, and another DKK 55 million in 2026.

As previously reported, the Swedish government announced a record batch of military aid, which will include combat boats, armored vehicles, air defense systems, and ammunition.
