Estonia builds first 23 km of border wall to protect from Russia

Construction of the first section of the wall infrastructure on the border with Russia has been completed in Estonia.

Currently, a 23.5 km section that includes the Luhamaa border checkpoint is already finished.

ERR reported about this.

Construction began in May 2020 and was slated to last through 2023, but the builders managed to complete the task earlier.

€20 million were allocated for the construction of the first section of the wall, but the contractor saved money and spent €1 million less.

Construction of the second border wall section is already underway.

A procurement for the wall monitoring equipment is also ongoing.

Estonia’s border with Russia is 383 kilometers.

As previously reported, Poland built a 140-kilometer-long section of the wall infrastructure on the border with Belarus. This is the first commissioned section of the border.

Construction of the border began in February 2022. When completed, the five-meter high fence will extend for almost 200 kilometers.
