Estonia supports the idea of creating a European Union mission to train the Ukrainian military.

Such a statement was published on the Estonian Ministry of Defense’s website.

On Tuesday, during an informal meeting of European Union defense ministers in Prague, Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur expressed support for the proposal of the European External Action Service to organize a mission to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces servicemen.

“Estonia has been contributing to training the Ukrainian Armed Forces for some time now and will continue to do so, therefore, we are ready to be involved in this mission as well. However, it is important that this mission would complement the weapons aid provided to Ukraine and go hand in hand with the already operational training activities,” said Minister Pevkur.

The focus of the informal meeting of the EU defense ministers is to continue assistance to Ukraine and increase the defense capabilities of member states.

“Supporting Ukraine in a multitude of ways is and will remain a priority. We have to help Ukraine as long as it needs, as much as it needs, and as fast as it needs.

What is important now is to increase and pick up the speed of providing military aid to Ukraine and to ensure the European Peace Facility’s sustained and long-term support for Ukraine,” said Minister Pevkur.

Also, at least several other European Union countries have expressed readiness to support the mission to train the Ukrainian military.

Previously this month, Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy, announced a mission to train the Ukrainian military.

According to him, such a mission will be deployed not directly in Ukraine but in the neighboring country.

During an informal meeting of EU defense ministers held in Prague, it was announced that the European Union and individual member states will continue to provide Ukraine with the necessary military support in even larger volumes.

“The EU stands unanimously in support of Ukraine, its members continue to be ready to support Ukraine for as long as necessary, and in as much as necessary,” Borrell said.
