EU training mission for UAF reaches full operational readiness

The new EUMAM Ukraine European Union training mission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reached full operational readiness.

This was announced by Josep Borrell, head of EU diplomacy, European Pravda writes.

He made such a statement at a briefing in the Polish city of Brzeg, where a training center for the Ukrainian military was deployed.

“I am pleased to announce that Mission Commander Admiral Bléjean, who accompanied me today, has stated that the mission has achieved full operational readiness. The mission is already working, the mission will teach 15 thousands of Ukrainian military. It will cost the EU budget €100 million,” Borrell said.

According to him, now 1,100 Ukrainian military are trained as part of this mission in various camps.

“20 EU countries participate in the mission. This is the biggest military mission the EU has ever built for any of its partners,” Borrell said.

He also said that the EU will provide an additional 16 million euros, which will be spent on equipment for the exercise.

“In addition, non-EU Norway will provide €50m to support the mission,” Borrell added.

On November 15, the Council of the European Union officially launched an EU training mission for Ukraine called EUMAM Ukraine, which became a continuation of Ukraine’s support in confronting Russian aggression.

The mission will last for 24 months and will complement EU contributions for Ukraine within the framework of the European Peace Fund. The first battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has already begun training in Poland.

The training mission will ensure coordination with the bilateral activities of member states in support of Ukraine, as well as with other international partners and will be open to the participation of third states.

EUMAM has a mandate to conduct individual, collective and specialized training for up to 15,000 Armed Forces personnel in various locations within the European Union Member States.
