Fastiv and Sumy patrol boats were placed in commission with the Ukrainian Navy, reports Militarnyi. The event marks the 30th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleksiy Reznikov, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine took part in the presentation of honorable certificates.
The boats themselves have already been formally enlisted in the Ukrainian Navy by Order of the Minister of Defense No. 362 dated November 29, 2021.
The next day, November 30, Fastiv and Sumy patrol boats set to the sea for the first time after arriving in Ukraine.
On November 25, in Odesa, two Ukrainian Island-class patrol boats, delivered from the United States, were unloaded from the Ocean Grand vessel and launched.
On board the Ocean Grand vessel, two patrol boats from the United States arrived in Ukraine on November 23, covering thousands of nautical miles.
The Island-class boats are a part of the US $ 2.5 billion security package that the United States has provided to Ukraine since 2014.
The ships are intended to strengthen the Ukrainian Navy. Sumy and Fastiv were loaded on the Ocean Grand vessel for sea transportation and left Baltimore, Maryland for Ukraine on November 8.
This is the second delivery of patrol boats that the United States will hand over to Ukraine as part of security and defense aid. The first two, Sloviansk and Starobilsk, are already serving with the national navy.
Another Island-class boat is waiting to be sent to Ukraine. The fifth patrol boat to be delivered will be named after the Hero of Ukraine warrant-officer Viacheslav Kubrak.
