Germany will continue supplying weapons to restore the defense reserves of Eastern European countries, that are transferring their equipment and weapons to Ukraine.

This was reported by the German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, Deutsche Welle writes.

Germany will hand over 15 Leopard 2A4 tanks to the Czech Republic to replenish the country’s armored vehicle reserve since the country is supplying weapons and military equipment to Ukraine to fight the Russian invaders.

“The Czech Republic supplies heavy weapons (to Ukraine – Ed.). We will help in closing the gaps with Leopard tanks from Germany’s industrial reserves,” stated Christine Lambrecht, German Defense Minister, on Wednesday, May 18.

The Minister called such “circular supplies” “a good example of how we can quickly and easily support Ukraine in its courageous fight against the Russian aggression.”

Tanks along with ammunition and spare parts will be provided from the Bundeswehr arsenal.

It is reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of the Czech Republic has already approved this exchange procedure.

Also, Germany will finance training for the Czech military.

The Czech Republic also plans to begin negotiations on procuring 50 more such tanks, announced Jakub Fianor, Spokesman of the Czech Ministry of Defense.

Recently, Czech media reported that the Czech government has made an agreement on transferring the Leopard 2 tanks inside the country to replace the equipment that was delivered to Ukraine.

The media reported that these would include 20 tanks of the Leopard 2A4 version. They also mentioned the ongoing preparation of the signing of a contract to purchase 40 Leopard 2A7 tanks.

The cost of such an agreement could be between CZK 15 and 20 billion. It was noted that Leopard 2A7 will be produced jointly by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann and Czech defense industry companies, which should be receiving a significant part of this contract.
