Greece to train Ukrainian F-16 pilots
Greece will take part in training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets.
President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated this at a press conference with Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Thus, Greece has joined an aviation coalition in which some countries provide fighter jets to Ukraine while others train its pilots and technicians.
“Today, we discussed several priority topics with Mr. Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Of course, I informed him about the situation on the battlefield, the attacks of Russian terrorists, and our opportunities to restore global security and territorial integrity of our state,” the President said.
Zelensky briefed the Greek Prime Minister on the situation on the battlefield, Russian strikes, and opportunities to restore global security and Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
The parties also discussed the defense needs of the Ukrainian military.
The President thanked the Greek Prime Minister for his “willingness to help more in the defense of our freedom.”
“We are grateful that there will be Greek defense support for Ukraine. Our teams are discussing the relevant details,” Zelensky added.
Greek aid
This is not the first aid to Ukraine from Greece. Last year, Greece sent Ukraine BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles.
Greece handed over BMP-1s to Ukraine as part of a “ring exchange” with Germany, which sent Marder infantry fighting vehicles to the Greek military.
The country also actively supplies weapons and equipment to the Ukrainian army.
In 2022, six Greek, ten Canadian, and five New Zealand transport aircraft were used to transport the aid.
