Lithuania will transfer the М577 Command Post Vehicle to Ukraine in February
In February, М577 Command Post Vehicles will arrive in Ukraine from Lithuania.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda also reported that the country approved a €200 million package of long-term military assistance to Ukraine.
In January, Lithuania will again ship ammunition, generators, and detonation systems to Ukraine.
“We continue to support brave Ukrainians in their struggle by all means: military, economic, and political. At the National Defense Council of Lithuania, we approved a package of long-term military assistance to Ukraine worth €200 million,” Gitanas Nausėda said.
The Head of State noted that Lithuania would train Ukrainian soldiers and strengthen cooperation in the defense industry.
Nausėda called the signed agreements between the Ukrainian and Lithuanian defense industries another example of close military cooperation between the two states.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has arrived in Vilnius for a visit. As part of his visit, Ukraine and Lithuania agreed to jointly produce defense equipment, including anti-drone weapons.
М577
In 2022, Lithuania has already transferred М577 Command Post Vehicles to Ukraine.
In 2016, Lithuania purchased 168 German М577 armored personnel carriers from the German military arsenal, spending a total of €1.6 million on this.
According to the treaty, the Lithuanian military received М577 Armored Command Post Vehicles in several batches over the following two years.
Along with the vehicles, the Bundeswehr also transferred spare parts, maintenance tools, and equipment for the crew to its Lithuanian partners.
In 2019, the German enterprise FFG Flensburger Fahrzeugbau Gesellschaft mbH won a tender set up by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) to modernize 22 M577 armored personnel carriers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Upgraded M577 can be used to control PzH 2000 howitzers.
