More than a quarter of German exported arms were shipped to Ukraine
This year, Ukraine received over a quarter of the German military equipment and weapons allocated for exports.
In 2022, the country’s government approved the export of arms with a total value of €8.35 billion, according to Spiegel.
This number almost reached the record year of 2021. Then, the value of the weapons shipped for export amounted to €9.35 billion.
It is noted that Ukraine received over a quarter of the German weapons and military equipment shipped between January 1 and December 22.
This was stated in the response of the Federal Ministry of Economy to the request of the German Member of Parliament.
But even without considering the aid to Ukraine to resist the Russian invasion, the volume of military exports from Germany exceeded €6 billion.
Ukraine received a variety of weapons from Germany with a total value of €2.24 billion.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine were supplied with a lot of heavy weapons. These include 30 Gepard SPAAGs, 14 155-mm Panzerhaubitzen 2000 self-propelled howitzers, 5 MARS II multiple rocket launchers, and a modern Iris-T air defense system.
Among NATO allies, the Netherlands (€1.83 billion), the United States (approximately €864 million), Great Britain (€ 453 million), and Hungary (€ 249.2 million) purchased the most German weapons. Australia, Singapore, and South Korea were also significant customers.
German defense companies supplied weapons worth a total of € 3.23 billion to third countries that are not part of either the EU or NATO. Ukraine also belongs to this category.
Previously, the first footage of the German Biber bridge-layer tank in Ukraine was released online.
The Ukrainian military has already received three of these engineering vehicles. In total, the German government will transfer 16 bridge-layer tanks to Ukraine.
