Occupation forces have resumed their assault on Azovstal
In Mariupol, Russian troops have resumed their assault on the Azovstal plant.
Petro Andriushchenko, Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol, reported about it.
Russian troops resumed their assault as soon as the UN convoy left the Donetsk Region.
“As expected, as soon as the UN convoy left the Donetsk Region, the invaders resumed their assault on Azovstal. They attempted to break through via the bridge that was used for evacuation, yet were not successful,” he said.
The Adviser also released a video featuring the militants conducting offensive operations.
The Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol expressed his hope that the Ukrainian soldiers will be evacuated.
“I sincerely hope that all the defenders will be saved. We are all indebted to them,” Andryushchenko stressed.
The evacuation of civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol started on May 1. On the same day, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that approximately 100 people had left for Zaporizhzhia.
According to Mariupol Mayor Vadym Boychenko, over 100 civilians were evacuated from the bomb shelters on the territory of Azovstal on May 2.
On Wednesday, May 4, 344 people were evacuated within the Mariupol humanitarian corridor. These included women, children, and the elderly from Mariupol, Mangush, Berdyansk, Tokmak, and Vasylivka. They all arrived in Zaporizhzhia. Despite the ongoing evacuation of civilians, the invaders started storming Azovstal. On May 5, they carried out an active assault for the third day in a row, and could not be “knocked out”.
As of May 6, almost 500 people were rescued from Mariupol, and a new evacuation from Azovstal has begun. On this day, the invaders were shooting at the vehicles set to evacuate civilians from the plant; casualties and injuries were reported. Later, Azov showed the consequences of the shelling of the evacuation vehicle.
On May 7, defenders of Mariupol came out to the Russian military with a white flag to evacuate civilians. It was also announced that yesterday’s evacuation of civilians from Azovstal came at the cost of the lives of 3 defenders, another 6 were wounded.
