Poland will provide the Ukrainian military with more Т-72 tanks and infantry fighting vehicles.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Poland.

According to a statement by the Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak, as part of the new aid package, equipment will be transferred to prepare the Ukrainian brigade.

“As part of the new support package for Ukraine, I presented our Polish support, by the end of March we will be able to equip and train Ukrainian soldiers on a brigade level,” said Mariusz Blaszczak.

The Polish Army is armed with BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles, which will be transferred to Ukraine.

It is worth emphasizing that the “Tallinn Declaration” contained information on the transfer of 42 BMP-1 from Poland and on the training of two mechanized battalions. The assistance announced may be a part of this aid package.

Polish military is armed with Soviet-era Т-72М/М1/М1Р tanks. Poland also has PT-91 tanks, which are based on the licensed version of the Т-72М1.

The Minister also noted that this assistance became possible due to the consistent modernization of the Polish Army.

“Support for Ukraine is possible because we can provide an equivalent for the Polish Army. There are already Korean К-2 tanks and К-9 howitzers. There will also be HIMARS and Abrams tanks,” said Mariusz Blaszczak.

Poland has also held negotiations with representatives of 15 countries that operate Leopard tanks, which can be transferred to Ukraine as part of a wider coalition decision.

“We talked about equipping Ukraine with these heavy tanks. This is important because such tanks have 14 countries gathered today in Ramstein. We want to create a coalition of countries that have these tanks and that could [help to] equip Ukraine with these tanks. No decisions have been made on this issue. We have further meetings planned,” the Polish minister said.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki believes that the allies can jointly transfer up to 100 Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
