‘Ranger’ Regiment Armed with Heavy Equipment
Soldiers of the Ukrainian ‘Ranger’ Regiment have been equipped with modernized infantry fighting vehicles, armored Humvees, and other vehicles.
This is shown in a video released by the unit’s press service.
The unit’s assault subunits have received a modernized infantry fighting vehicle, BMP-1, with a Ukrainian-made Sich remote weapon station. It is fully automated, equipped with a stabilizer and a modern thermal imaging sight.
Instead of the old armament, the module carries a 30mm cannon, an automatic grenade launcher, and a machine gun, which will provide the unit with more firepower on the battlefield.
The video also shows that the regiment is equipped with Polaris buggies and HMMWV armored vehicles with open gunners mounts.
In addition, according to the unit’s page, they are also armed with conventional off-road vehicles and Ukrainian-made Kozak-5 armored vehicles.
The ‘Ranger’ Corps
Currently, the exact composition and organizational structure of the corps remain secret. Open sources suggest the presence of the 6th Separate Special Purpose Regiment ‘Ranger,’ which is likely the only fully combat-ready unit within the organization.
Formed as part of the Special Operations Forces, the ‘Ranger’ Corps specializes in reconnaissance, assault operations, and raids behind enemy lines. For this purpose, it is mostly equipped with appropriate, highly mobile wheeled vehicles.
Russian sources say that Ranger units took part in repelling the summer Russian offensive in the north of the Kharkiv region, as well as in the Kursk operation.
There, they distinguished themselves by using a new tactic of small assault groups that operated in close cooperation with electronic warfare units to neutralize enemy aerial reconnaissance and under the cover of their own attack UAVs.
The formation has its own company of strike unmanned systems, which have been spotted using FPV drones and copters such as DJI Mavic and Matrice.
As a reminder, Ukrainian units of the Special Operations Forces have begun using ground-based robotic systems in cooperation with FPV drones and artillery in the Kursk oblast.
