Reuters: North Korea may be able to produce 90 nuclear warheads
North Korea may be able to produce 90 nuclear warheads and equip its own ballistic missiles with them.
Reuters reported on this with reference to the intelligence agency of South Korea.
According to Reuters, North Korea has produced about 50 nuclear warheads to date and plans to increase their number to 90.
In addition, the North Korean news agency recently reported that leader Kim Jong-un had visited an uranium enrichment facility.
The demonstration of North Korea’s nuclear capabilities is directly related to propaganda and demonstration of the country’s power.
According to the South Korean intelligence, the activation of the DPRK’s nuclear capabilities may be linked to the elections in the United States and Japan to demonstrate country’s serious intentions in the international arena.
In addition, North Korea sees nuclear weapons as a matter of national prestige amid a difficult economic situation.
“I emphasize once again that a more accelerated and confident progress should be made in the struggle to permanently preserve and maximize the consistent response readiness of the Nuclear Armed Forces,” Kim Jong-un said during a visit to a nuclear facility in early September 2024.
Militarnyi previously reported that North Korea had adapted the Hwasan-31 tactical nuclear warhead to install on short-range ballistic missiles and MLRS.
Unveiled in March last year, the Hwasan-31 has been miniaturized and standardized enough to be mounted on KN-23 and KN-24 ballistic missiles and even on 600mm KN-25 multiple launch rocket system shells.
