Russia announces attack on Novorossiysk by naval drones
On the night of September 5, the authorities of the Russian city of Novorossiysk announced an attack by naval drones on the city.
The naval base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet is located there.
At 01:23 a.m., Andrey Kravchenko, the city’s mayor, reported that an alarm siren had been activated due to an alleged attack by unmanned boats.
He also urged residents not to go ashore, stand near windows in buildings on the first shoreline, and take or post videos or photos of the attack.
Local social media users reported explosions in the sea near the city. The shooting sounds were also heard in Novorossiysk.
Despite the mayor’s appeals, local residents are posting videos from the city’s waters on social media and Telegram channels.
As of 4 a.m., the Russian city’s administration restricted traffic near the waterfront and closed the beaches.
The results of the naval drone attack are currently unknown.
The city of Novorossiysk is located in Krasnodar Krai, in the south of Russia. It is an important transportation center and the largest seaport of the aggressor country on the Black Sea.
There is also a naval base here, where a part of the Russian Black Sea Fleet was transferred after Ukrainian drones and missiles attacked bases in Crimea.
Previously, Ukrainian engineers installed a Grad MRL 122mm rocket launcher on the Sea Baby naval drone. The launcher is installed in the upper part of the naval drone. It is capable of launching six 122-mm rockets at once.
With the help of such mobile naval rocket launchers, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are able to attack Russian targets off the coast.
