Russian loitering munition hits Romanian territory
One of Russia’s loitering munitions hit Romanian territory during Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.
A Russian unmanned aerial vehicle crashed three kilometers away from the village of Plauru in Tulcea County.
According to the website of the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, field teams reported finding a drone crater about 3 km west of Plaura at about 5:00 a.m.
“Measures have been taken to ensure the security of the area. The competent authorities have been notified to collect evidence and conduct investigations in accordance with existing procedures,” the statement reads.
The Ministry of National Defense of Romania strongly condemns Russia’s attacks on civilian infrastructure in Ukrainian ports on the Danube.
“These attacks are unjustified and seriously violate international humanitarian law,” the Ministry emphasized.
Luminița Odobescu, Romanian Foreign Minister, called on Russia to stop its constant attacks on Ukraine.
“Russia’s heinous attacks on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure have once again had serious consequences in Romania. New evidence of impact has been discovered in Romania. We call on Russia to stop these war crimes,” she stated.
The Ukrainian Air Force Command reported that on the night of October 12, 2023, the enemy attacked Ukraine with Shahed loitering munitions.
A total of 33 Shahed launches were recorded. The Russian UAVs flew in different directions, causing the air defense to operate in at least six regions of Ukraine.
Aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, mobile fire groups, and electronic warfare units were involved in repelling the air attack.
This is not the first time that Russian drones have flown into Romanian territory. In early September, the Romanian Defense Minister admitted for the first time that fragments similar to drone wreckage were found near the banks of the Danube on the Romanian side.
