Russian invaders shot five Ukrainian prisoners of war in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office reported on this.

The invaders committed the war crime near the village of Novodarivka, Polohy district.

According to preliminary data, on November 24, 2024, in the area of active hostilities, the Russian armed forces shot five Ukrainian defenders out of six who had been taken prisoner.

Ukrainian law enforcement officers have identified the invasion army unit, whose servicemen are currently being checked for involvement in this crime. Investigators also have a video recording of the shooting.

Under the procedural supervision of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a criminal proceeding was initiated over violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder (Part 2 Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The SSU Office conducts pre-trial investigations of criminal proceedings in the Zaporizhzhia region.

The Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and is classified as a serious international crime.

Recently, it was reported that Russian invaders shot five captured servicemen of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Pokrovsk sector near the village of Petrivka in the Donetsk region.

After surrounding a private house where the Ukrainian defenders were staying, the Russian military forced them to leave the shelter unarmed and lie down on the ground.

In violation of international humanitarian law, the Russian invaders shot Ukrainian POWs with automatic weapons.

In addition, on November 10, the invaders shot dead two Ukrainian soldiers in the Pokrovsk sector. The Russians committed the war crime after storming the Armed Forces of Ukraine fortifications near the village of Novodmytrivka.
