Sullivan announced a significant military aid package to Ukraine
The US is working on a significant aid package for Ukraine, which is expected to be announced by the end of September.
U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan stated this.
Sullivan said he meets with his team every day to consider what tools and instruments need to be implemented to stabilize the front line and make sure Russia is denied the opportunity to make any breakthrough that would lead to strategic advantages.
He recalled that this April, there was widespread concern that the front line might collapse.
However, in the months that followed, Ukraine’s defenses grew stronger in many critical locations, and Ukraine also took bold and decisive steps in the war as it moved forward.
Sullivan noted that this is not a matter of political will, but a matter of solving difficult and complex logistical and operational issues to actually deliver the necessary weapons to the front line.
According to him, the U.S. is literally pulling 155 mm caliber shells off the assembly line and delivering them to the front line as fast as they can.
As another example of support, he cited the difficult decision to redirect all Patriot missiles to Ukraine that were to be delivered to partners and allies in the next 12 months.
“I’m proud of what we’ve done, but as President Zelenskiy said on stage, given what Ukraine is facing, we have to do more and better, and I agree with that,” Sullivan emphasized.
The strategy of victory
Sullivan also noted that a comprehensive strategy is necessary for success in Ukraine’s war against Russia, and such a strategy proposed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will be discussed at his meeting with US President Joseph Biden, which is scheduled for the week of September 24.
Sullivan noted that it would be right for Zelensky to present this strategy because it is the democratically elected government of Ukraine and the people of Ukraine who must determine “the course of the war, their path to victory and all the parts that will be combined with each other.”
He added that during this conversation, “in which all the pieces will be put together,” the American side will present its proposals for possible support, and Ukraine will look at them “in the context of a strategy of diplomacy.”
