The government of Sweden has announced a fifth aid package to Kyiv worth almost €47 mln. It includes anti-tank weapons and demining equipment.

Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist said the weapons have been “specifically requested by Ukraine.”

DW reported about this.

“It is important that the support to Ukraine from the democratic countries in Europe is continuous and long-term,” he said.

The minister did not say when and how the equipment would be delivered but said it’s in everyone’s interest to deliver it as quickly as possible.

This is the 5th aid package to Ukraine from Sweden. The previous one was announced in early June. The new defense package includes anti-ship missiles, anti-tank weapons, 12.7-mm rifles and ammunition. The total cost is over €95 mln.

As previously reported, on June 29 NATO formally invited Finland and Sweden to join the Alliance. A trilateral memorandum between the Scandinavian countries and Turkey was signed before this invitation.

The decision of Sweden and Finland to apply for membership in the North Atlantic Alliance was made amid Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
