The CH-47 Chinook pilot of the Republic of China (Taiwan) failed to escape to China with the helicopter.

The Taipei Times reported on this.

The pilot named Hsieh planned to fly the helicopter to a PLA Navy vessel that was supposed to be in the Taiwan Strait.

According to the plan, the ship was supposed to be positioned near the port city of Kaohsiung under the pretext of exercises, which would have given the pilot the opportunity to avoid crossing the sea border between the countries.

The prosecutor’s office argues that bypassing the border would have minimized the possibility of interception by the fighter jets of the Taiwanese Air Force.

The defector was reportedly supposed to receive $15 million and evacuation of his family to Thailand in the event of a military conflict between Taiwan and China.

He was arrested in August, along with his accomplices, after a tip-off that they had been on the radar of Taiwanese law enforcement agencies since spring.

In August, Militarnyi reported that as a result of a six-month-long special operation, the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine drew a Mi-8AMTSh helicopter with its crew to the territory of Ukraine.

The operation was codenamed Synytsia (Titmouse – Ed.). Two crew members were on board along with the pilot, and they were eliminated by Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

The helicopter landed near the town of Poltava in the Kharkiv region.

The pilot himself is currently in Ukraine with his family, who were moved out of Russia in advance.

The captured Mi-8AMTSh (aircraft number 62 Red) helicopter is part of the 2nd helicopter squadron of the 337th Separate Helicopter Regiment (military unit 12739) based at the Tolmachevo airport.
