Tehran Develops New SAM System, Possibly Upgraded AD-08 Majid
A new, previously unknown mobile anti-aircraft missile system on a truck chassis was seen in the Iranian capital.
The photo was posted by X-user IDFOsint.
The air defense system was observed on August 1 among residential buildings in Tehran. The Iranian anti-aircraft missile system is mounted on a 4×4 truck chassis, which has supports. Behind the cab is presumably a control room or hardware compartment, followed by a generator.
The launcher can change the vertical angle, as evidenced by the presence of hydraulics. Although the swivel mechanism is not clearly visible, it is likely present.
The small missiles are housed in four transport and launch canisters (TLCs). Between the TLCs, there is likely a radar station and an optoelectronic system.
In a neighboring building, another vehicle that may be part of the complex was observed, which can be assumed to be a mobile command post.
Given the size of the missiles, the new complex is designed for short-range air defense.
It is not known what kind of missiles the Iranian air defense system uses. However, it could be existing missiles such as Majid, Saqr, Qaem, or a new missile.
Given the similarity of the launcher to the existing Iranian C-UAS AD-08 Majid, it can be assumed that the system seen in Tehran is its upgraded version.
According to MilitaryLeak, the anti-aircraft missile used in the AD-08 Majid is equipped with an infrared seeker.
The missile can hit targets at a range of 700 meters to 8 km and at an altitude of 20 meters to 6 km. It has a diameter of 156 mm, a length of 2670 mm, and a total weight of 75 kg.
