The American Guards are training the Ukrainian military in Germany

A Florida National Guard unit that was evacuated from Ukraine in February now has a new mission, namely continuing to train Ukrainian troops, this time outside of Ukraine.

The 160 members of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Florida National Guard were recently reunited with their Ukrainian partners, said John Kirby, Pentagon spokesman on Friday, DefenceNews informs.

Germany will be one of the host countries for these trainings, Kirby added, declining to name the others.

“So they’ll do the bulk of it. But I’m not going to go so far as to say that all of it will be done just by the Florida National Guard,” Kirby said.

The U.S. military will train Ukrainian troops to use the equipment shipped in two recent aid packages, including radars and tactical vehicles.

This unit of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team of the Florida National Guard first arrived in Ukraine in late November 2021 as part of the Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine, which includes representatives from the United States, Canada, Lithuania, Denmark, and Sweden.

The U.S. military will continue its mission working with Ukrainian troops.

Previously, two groups of Ukrainian trainers were trained outside Ukraine and are now expected to pass this knowledge and skills on how to use American artillery systems to their colleagues.

A Pentagon official said the first group included “just over 50 people” while the second group there had about 50.

Previously, the U.S. House of Representatives has approved the military lend-lease program for Ukraine, which will significantly speed up the provision of military assistance.

On April 30, the United States demonstrated how the M113 tracked armored personnel carriers bound for the Ukrainian Armed Forces are being loaded. The day before, 155-mm howitzers were shipped to the American C-17 Globemaster III.
