The Ukrainian military command is waiting for an opportunity to take full control of Bakhmut again.

Colonel-General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, discussed the further plans for Bakhmut.

Despite the fact that the Defense Forces of Ukraine are now controlling only a small part of Bakhmut, its defense remains very important.

“This gives us the opportunity to enter the city in case of a change in the situation. And this will definitely happen,” said Oleksandr Syrskyi.

Currently, Ukrainian forces continue advancing on the flanks in the suburbs of Bakhmut.

“We are basically close to encircling the city,” the Commander of the Ground Forces noted.

Due to this, the military should gain control over the high-rise buildings seized by the enemy, which would allow causing greater losses.

“This deprives the enemy of control over the approaches to the city and gives us certain tactical benefits,” Oleksandr Syrskyi said.

The Ministry of Defense shared on Sunday that, despite the Russian claims, Ukraine still controls a small part of the city.

“Our defense forces maintain control over industrial and infrastructure facilities and the houses in the Litak district of Bakhmut,” Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar said.

Serhii Cherevaty, Spokesman for Ukraine’s Eastern Group of Forces, noted that “the military is holding fortifications and several buildings in the southwestern part of the city.” Also, President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that Russia has not yet managed to capture all of Bakhmut. He reported this at a press conference after the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan.

“The enemy failed to surround Bakhmut, and they lost part of the dominant heights around the city. The flanking maneuver of our troops in the suburbs, which is still ongoing, makes it very difficult for the enemy to stay in Bakhmut,” Maliar said.
