The Come Back Alive Foundation received the first 5000 kamikaze drones
The Come Back Alive Foundation has received the first five thousand kamikaze drones purchased as part of a joint project with United24 and monobank.
The Foundation’s press service announced this on its social media pages.
The UAH 235 million raised between August 14 and 17 through the Operation Unity project was spent to purchase 10,000 FPV drones and ammunition.
“It was important for us not only to buy drones but also to equip them with a warhead so that the military would not have to make it with their own hands. After all, there is always a risk that homemade explosives may not work at the right time or explode suddenly,” says Taras Chmut, Head of the Come Back Alive Foundation.
The Ukrainian military approved the models of FPV drones and their ammunition. The drones were manufactured by a foreign company that specializes in the production of drones.
The warheads for FPV drones are manufactured by a Ukrainian company. The Foundation analyzed the proposals of several manufacturers and selected the best one.
“We received proposals from a number of companies and chose the best one. The products are codified and approved for use, with means of initiation, i.e. safe. They have already passed a certain level of testing in the military,” the Head of the Foundation shared.
The drones will be equipped with two types of warheads: HEAT to counter armor and HE-Frag to counter vehicles and fragmentation warheads to destroy enemy manpower and fortifications.
The received FPV drones will be distributed among dozens of brigades of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, including territorial defense units, and special forces of the Security Service of Ukraine, including soldiers of the SSU’s Special Group Alpha.
FPV drones
FPV drones are a type of drone that is actively being used during Russia’s war with Ukraine. The main feature that distinguishes these UAVs from others is that they are controlled through special goggles, i.e. with a first-person view, which is what the acronym FPV stands for – First Person View.
The operator sees the video from the drone’s camera in real-time as if he were sitting inside the UAV itself, just like the pilot.
FPV kamikaze drones are high-precision weapons capable of killing personnel and destroying fortifications and heavy armored vehicles.
