The Armed Forces of Ukraine today are already armed with many foreign types of weapons and military equipment.

These weapons are used in various areas and directions of the frontline of the Russia-Ukraine war.

The units of Missile and Artillery Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are already using the Poland-made AHS Krab self-propelled guns to fight against the enemy. They are destroying the invaders, their command posts, ammunition and fuel depots, logistics centers, strongholds, equipment, and manpower.

The ArmyInform journalist spoke with the crew driver of one of the Krab ACS and asked him about fighting the enemy during these hot summer days.

“I used to work with manual transmission – it is easier to operate, but this self-propelled gun, of course, is better: an automatic transmission, and indeed a powerful and fast one,” says driver Vasyl.

The crew commander shared about the Krab self-propelled guns:

“Previously, I served in units where 2S5 Hyacinth-S self-propelled guns were in service,” says Sergeant Volodymyr. – “During the training, the unit mastered the 2S1 Gvozdika and fired with the 2S3 Acacia. It was necessary to fire with towed guns, including the Hyacinth-B 2А36.”

“This new one for us, of course, has already been mastered. Although it felt unusual – over the years of work with Hyacinths, we used to know every screw of it. But this is a good cannon. Fast. Both in terms of motion and shooting. You don’t need to make huge calculations – the computer does everything for you. Over a month of being inside the ACS, we might not have left the vehicle, to, for example, sleep or eat. That is, we are constantly protected, which is not the case for the other self-propelled guns: you need to constantly be near the vehicle. And here, even if there isn’t much of armor, there is one,” the commander emphasized.

The servicemen mention that it is convenient to load ammunition into self-propelled guns. As soon as it arrives, it is loaded directly into the compartment, however much would fit in.

“We don’t take more than we need as there is enough,” says the commander. “When we run out of ammunition, then we would replenish the whole thing.”

Gunners are firing several shells – depending on the target. This can be two, four, six, or eight shells, but mostly two to three.

The first batches of Krab self-propelled artillery systems, which Poland handed over to Ukraine, are already performing combat missions at the frontline. The Armed Forces of Ukraine had also received mobile command posts for these artillery systems.
