The EU will allocate an additional EUR 500 million for Ukraine to exercise its right to defend itself against Russian aggression.

Ukrinform informs about this with reference to the European Commission website.

The funds will be used to purchase heavy arms and armored vehicles.

The EU High Representative Josep Borrell announced the allocation of new aid today, May 13.

This happened prior to the G7 Foreign Affairs Ministers meeting in Weissenhaus.

“This is the seventh meeting of the G7 [Foreign Ministers] since the Ukrainian war started. And I am sure that we will come out with a strong message. The recipe is clear – more of the same.

I mean, more support to Ukraine, including military support. I will announce that we, the European Union, we will provide a new tranche of 500 million euros more to support the military of Ukraine. It will make about EUR 2 billion in total,” Borrell said.

He clarified that this EUR 500 million will be allocated for the heavy arms, including armored vehicles, tanks, heavy artillery, ammunition, and the items needed for the war.

However, according to the High Representative of the European Union, this amount is not enough to supply Ukraine with combat aircraft.

The G7 Foreign Affairs Ministers will also pay special attention to the fight against Russian disinformation, including in parts regarding the causes of Russia’s war against Ukraine, and its impact on energy security and food prices around the world.

Previously, the United Kingdom stated that the country is looking for Soviet-made weapons all over the world in order to purchase them and hand them over to Ukraine to help fight off the Russian invaders.

Ukrainian artillerists are already using the M795 high-explosive projectiles and M777 howitzers against the invaders.
