The French Ministry of Defense denies transferring AKERON MP missiles to Ukraine.

The French Opexnews reported this with reference to the country’s Ministry of Defense.

“The Ministry of Armed Forces refutes the information about the shipment of AKERON MP missiles to Ukraine,” the message says.

Previously, Jean-Louis Thiériot, Vice President of the Commission for National Defense and the Armed Forces of France, shared with this publication that the AKERON ATGM was sent to Ukraine.

“Today, it is clear that the weapons we send are good, and they work. Caesar ACS, Mistral SAM, and the newly sent AKERON perform their tasks well,” Jean-Louis Thiériot Jean-Louis Thieriot told the publication on February 15.

It is possible, that during an interview, Jean-Louis Thieriot confused the AKERON ATGM with the MILAN ATGM, which France did provide to Ukraine.

AKERON ATGMs are a relatively new weapon developed for defeating enemy equipment.

The manufacturing company positions Akeron as a unique family of fifth-generation combat missiles.

The French Armed Forces have a fairly small number of AKERON MP missiles available.

The MBDA received a new order to supply just 200 Akeron MP missiles to the French army only in January of this year.

Although it did enter the service of the army and special forces in 2017 under the name MMP, and since 2018, France has been using it in military operations.

Akeron MP has a weight of 15 kilograms and a length of 1.3 meters in a container with a 140 mm diameter. MBDA stated that the missile has an effective range of over 4 kilometers with the “fire-and-forget” function when the operator does not need to direct the missile after launch.
