The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine ordered 105 Vector surveillance drones from the German Quantum-Systems GmbH.

This was announced on the company’s website.

It is noted that the supply will be funded by the German Government.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has placed a second batch order of Vector systems, following an earlier order of 33 drones of the same model in August 2022.

“Since then, the system was able to demonstrate it delivers unprecedented performance under the most challenging conditions. Vector has been extensively used and intensively tested on the Ukrainian battlefield, where it has proven to be an asset for military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations. Its robust and rugged design makes it well-suited for operation in harsh environments and extreme weather conditions,” Quantum-Systems GmbH said in a statement.

Quantum-Systems also reported that with the latest software update, Vector UAV is also able to operate in GNSS-denied scenarios.

It was emphasized that direct communication with the UAV operators on the battlefield made it possible to accelerate the process of developing and updating the system.

Besides, the company is opening a training center for Vector operators in Ukraine. In addition to training, the center will also service systems and purchase spare parts necessary for repairs.

The Quantum-Systems website notes that Vector integrates dual Electro-Optical (EO) and Infra-Red (IR) gimbaled sensors, enabling missions to be executed during both day and night.

The drone streams live video in real-time to multiple Ground Control Stations via Mesh IP encrypted data links and is equipped with advanced AI capabilities onboard.

Vector’s data assessment and image processing are supported by automatic detection, identification, and tracking algorithms, which provide on-the-ground tactical units with mission-critical data.

Vector drone

This UAV is a fixed-wing drone that can take off and land vertically. The UAV does not require a launch catapult or runway. The wingspan of the Vector is 2.8 m, the flight speed is 15-20 m/s, i.e. up to 72 km/h. According to the manufacturer, the drone is capable of operating at wind speeds of up to 12 m/s.

The Vector system comes in a carrying bag that can be transported by one person. According to Quantum-Systems, it only takes two minutes to set up the UAV before it flies.

The ground system is integrated into a tablet computer and, in combination with the mission software, allows you to fully control the aircraft and save all the data received by the sensors.

Encrypted IP communication stream video up to 15+ km away. The flight time is up to 120 minutes. With the help of an additional long-range ground station, the system’s range can be increased to 25 km.
