Today, the servicemen of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service have shot down an enemy warplane in the sky over Bakhmut.

The crew of a portable anti-aircraft missile system of one of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine divisions destroyed the Russian plane.

According to the preliminary information from the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the invaders lost a Su-25 jet aircraft.

It is reported that the Russian invaders used this aircraft to provide air cover for the infantry advancing toward the Ukrainian defense line.

Prior to being shot down, the Russian jet aircraft tried to attack Ukrainian positions. The Ukrainian border guards did not specify which MANPADS were used to shoot down the aircraft.

“The border guards shot down the air target using MANPADS. By the way, this system was provided through international aid,” the State Border Service pointed out.

After being hit by a missile, the aircraft caught fire and fell down. The video footage features the place of the fall and burning.

The fate of the Russian pilot is currently unknown.

Defense Forces of Ukraine, together with the border guard units, continue to repel attacks by Russian invasion forces against Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

The Su-25 subsonic single-seat jet aircraft is designed to provide air support in the combat zone during the day and at night under conditions of visibility of the target. It was developed back in the 1970s.

Su-25 is a highly protected combat aircraft. Life-important systems are duplicated and protected. Special attention is paid to the protection of critical components and elements of the cockpit and the fuel system.

In 2001, Russia launched a program to upgrade the Su-25 jet aircraft to the Su-25SM version. The updated aircraft received better combat capabilities. Its combat use modes allow the use of guided air-surface missiles from horizontal flight by deploying the accurate software-corrected tracking of the target.
