The Ukrainian military received French LRU MLRS – Reznikov

Oleksii Reznikov, Minister of Defense of Ukraine, announced that the Ukrainian military received French LRU MLRS.

He shared this on his Twitter page.

“The 4th brother in the Long Hand family, LRU, has arrived in Ukraine,” Oleksii Reznikov wrote.

Thus, Ukraine received the fourth type of multiple launch rocket system, which can target enemy equipment and positions located deep in the rear.

The operating range of the system is over 70 km, depending on the type of ammunition used. With GMLRS missiles, the Ukrainian military could destroy targets at a distance of 84 km.

Prior to that, the M270 systems from Great Britain and Norway, along with the German-modernized MARS II system and the American HIMARS system, were transferred to the Ukrainian forces.

Sébastien Lecornu, French Minister of Defense, previously shared about these MLRS being transferred to Ukraine. He mentioned that Paris will hand over two units of the LRU MLRS to Ukraine.

This MLRS, much like the MARS II, is considered the European version of the M270A1. The launchers are equipped with the European Fire Control System (EFCS) developed by Airbus Defense and Space.

It is reported that in the late 1980s, France received up to 60 American M270s, 44 of which were put into service with the French army.

In 2014, 13 systems upgraded to the LRU standard remained in service. Two of them were transferred to Ukraine. France has plans to replace its M270s by 2027.

The M270 is designed to destroy clusters of enemy manpower and equipment, artillery batteries, air defenses, command posts, and communications.
