The US has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale of Ground Command and Control and related equipment to the Government of Morocco.
The estimated total cost of the deal is $141.1 million.
The Government of Morocco has requested to buy six Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS-JTRS).
The MIDS-JTRS is a four-channel programmable radio that provides Link 16 and Tactical Air Navigation System (TACAN) functionality on one channel, plus three additional channels supporting extended JTRS network signals, including Airborne Networking Waveform (ANW), in the 2 MHz to 2 GHz frequency range.
Compared to its predecessor, the MIDS Information System (LVT), it includes additional features. MIDS is a tactical communications system that combines different types of information platforms into a common tactical data network. According to STANAG 5516, the Link 16 protocol is defined as one of the MIDS digital services.
Link 16 is a type of military tactical data exchange network. It is used by the U.S. and NATO countries.
It is one of the constituent parts of the TADIL (Tactical Digital Information Link) family of tactical data transmission networks.
Morocco’s request also includes:
- KY-100M Narrowband/ Wideband Terminals;
- KIV-78 and KIV-77 Cryptographic Appliques;
- AN/PYQ-10 Simple Key Loader (SKL);
- additional secure communications, cryptographic devices, and precision navigation equipment;
- unclassified and classified software, software support, and support equipment;
- spare and repair parts;
- support and test equipment;
- publications and technical documentation;
- personnel training and training equipment;
- U.S. Government and contractor engineering; technical and logistics support services; and other related elements of logistical and program support.
This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security of the United States by helping to improve the security of a Major Non-NATO Ally in North Africa.
The proposed sale will improve Morocco’s capability to meet current and future threats by providing timely intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance.
The principal contractors for this deal will be General Atomic Aeronautical Systems Inc., San Diego, CA; Lockheed Martin Inc., and Leonardo SpA, Rome, Italy.
The purchaser typically requests offsets. Any offset agreement will be defined in negotiations between the purchaser and the contractor.
