The US will sell HIMARS systems and long-range ATACMS missiles to Poland

The U.S. Department of Defense informed Congress of selling 18 HIMARS systems and missiles to Poland.

The contract covers the supply of launch systems and ammunition, including ATACMS missiles with an estimated cost of $10 billion.

This is reported on the website of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency.

According to the contract, Poland will receive 45 M57 Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), as well as 1,514 GMLRS missiles of various modifications, namely GMLRS-AW, GMLRS-U, and GMLRS-ER AW.

“Poland intends to use these defense articles and services to modernize its armed forces and expand its capability to strengthen its homeland defense and deter regional threats. Poland will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces,” the statement reports.

The Agency also emphasizes that this proposed sale “will support the foreign policy goals and national security objectives of the United States.”

The contract also provides for all equipment necessary to ensure the system operation, military training, communications, spare and repair parts, and United States Government and contractor engineering and logistics personnel services.

The principal contractor will be Lockheed Martin.

As previously reported, in November 2022, Poland was negotiating the purchase of 200 HIMARS systems.

Additionally, industrial and repair potential might be established in Poland, which will serve not only the needs of the Polish Armed Forces.

Thus, Poland could become a service center for American multiple rocket launcher systems, including those used by US troops deployed in Europe, as well as allies.
