Turkey introduced the concept of national aircraft carrier
Turkey has introduced the concept of a new aircraft carrier, which will be used as a platform for drones and manned aviation.
TurDef reported on this.
The new concept is to complement the TCG Anadolu aircraft carrier already built according to the Turkish classification.
The displacement of the new platform will be about 60 thousand tons, which makes it possible to install an electromagnetic catapult on it.
However, the published pictures show that the ship has a springboard, which is cheaper, but no less effective for small aircraft.
The ship will be 285 meters long, which makes it one meter longer than the British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth.
At the same time, its width is 72 meters, which is one meter less than the British aircraft carrier.
Four LM2500 gas turbines, also used on other Turkish ships, will power the ship.
The defensive armament consists of four GÖKDENİZ ASELSAN 35 mm guns for the direct protection of the ship at close range.
In addition, it will have MİDLAS 32 cells of the vertical launch system on the starboard side of the ship.
It is currently unclear exactly which radar station will be installed on the aircraft carrier, but judging by the photo, it may be an ÇAFRAD radar, intended for TF-2000 destroyers.
Militarnyi previously reported that the Turkish government gave the green light to build an aircraft carrier and four additional Istanbul-class frigates.
