Ukraine and South Korea agreed to intensify contacts at all levels due to the participation of DPRK troops in the war on the side of Russia.

In particular, this regards strengthening intelligence sharing between countries.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced this after a telephone conversation with Yoon Suk Yeol, President of the Republic of Korea.

The parties also agreed to develop an action strategy and a list of countermeasures in response to the escalation, as well as to engage joint partners in cooperation.

As part of this agreement, Ukraine and the Republic of Korea will soon exchange delegations to coordinate actions in response to North Korea’s deployment of troops to Russia.

“It will take a day or two for Ukraine to appoint a special representative and finalize a plan for the visit and negotiations here,” an official from the South Korean presidential office told reporters on condition of anonymity.

He shared that South Korea is considering sending a team to monitor North Korean military activities on the frontline in Ukraine, Yonhap reported.

This is necessary to assess the potential consequences for the security of the Republic of Korea. Since Pyongyang can receive new military technologies from Russia in exchange for deploying its troops and learning modern warfare tactics.

The publication noted that many in South Korea believe that the participation of DPRK troops in the Russian war against Ukraine could pose a “direct military threat” to their country.

When asked whether South Korea is considering providing Ukraine with 155-millimeter artillery shells, the official clarified that there has been no request from Ukraine and that such a plan is not being considered.

Although the issue of providing Ukraine with weapons is not currently being discussed, the official noted that defense weapons will be considered first.

On Monday, South Korea’s President announced that a South Korean delegation will visit Ukraine this week to share information about North Korea’s (DPRK) troop deployment to Russia and discuss cooperation.
