Ukraine has established the production of anti-personnel mines
The Russian military published images of Ukrainian-made anti-personnel mines discovered on the battlefield.
The Russian media released the pictures.
The invaders presented the Ukrainian VNP-50 anti-personnel mine, which, according to them, is a copy of the Soviet MON-50, actively used in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
According to them, apart from the labeling, the engineered munition is almost indistinguishable from the original. However, they did not examine the internal structure.
MON-50 is a directional type mine that ejects a dense flow of debris in a preset direction. It weighs only two kilograms, of which 700 grams are explosives.
The munition is equipped with 485-540 preformed fragments in the form of layers or cylinders, which, upon detonation, form a 54°-degree kill zone at a distance of up to 50 meters.
MON-100
Other photos of these mines were also published online, along with a more powerful representative of the family – a copy of the Soviet MON-100.
Judging by the photo, it also received a completely plastic case, which should significantly reduce its weight compared to the 5-kilogram original ammunition.
MON-100 is designed to defeat infantry, but in practice, there are known cases of damage even to armored vehicles. In the event of an explosion, it forms a narrow beam of a directed stream of preformed fragments with a kill zone of up to 160 meters long and up to 6-9 meters in diameter.
The original mine is equipped with 2 kilograms of TNT and 400 preformed fragments in the form of 10×10 mm rollers.
Ottawa Convention
It is worth noting that Ukraine once signed the Ottawa Treaty on the Elimination of Stockpiles and the Non-Use of Anti-Personnel Mines Triggered by the Presence of Humans. However, it does not apply to such mines whose detonation is controlled by a sapper.
Therefore, it can be assumed that Ukrainian-made mines are equipped only with certain types of detonators that activate them only upon a signal from their owner.
