Ukraine receives German mine clearing tanks
The German government has handed over four mine clearing tanks to Ukraine.
Germany’s government website also indicates that Ukraine has received four mobile and protected mine clearing systems.
The exact type of armored vehicles is not specified, but the transfer included the Minenräumpanzer.
From German Minenräumpanzer translates as “mine clearing tank”.
The Bundeswehr is armed with Minenräumpanzer Keiler mine clearing tanks.
Presumably, Ukraine received the Keiler demining vehicles based on the modified chassis of an M48 tank, which had adopted a set of modern components.
In the second half of the nineties, the German army received 24 Keiler demining vehicles.
The Keiler mine clearing tank is a monster with a combat weight of 54.6 tons and an engine power of about 1,100 horsepower.
In the Keiler realignment, the base chassis were reinforced with a thrust nose shield, as well as a heavy-duty rotor-powered mine flail and an electromagnetic trawl.
In addition, the machine is equipped with a device for marking the cleared passage using flags.
The Keiler demining vehicle is an example of the most interesting approach to the operation of equipment.
Despite the use of the hull with limited protection as well as other units of the outdated tank, it copes with the tasks and has repeatedly demonstrated its potential in real operations.
