Ukraine to receive additional military assistance from Montenegro

Montenegro will provide military assistance to Ukraine in support of the preservation of Ukraine’s integrity and sovereignty during the war against the Russian aggressor.

European Pravda reported about this with reference to the RTCG TV and Radio Company.

On Thursday, following the suggestion of Montenegro’s Ministry of Defense, the country’s government decided to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine.

“This decision is consistent in supporting the preservation of the integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine,” the Defense Ministry declared in its statement.

The statement reads, that since the beginning of the war in Ukraine to this day, Montenegro, as a full member of NATO and an EU membership candidate, as well as a sincere friend of the Ukrainian people, condemns the Russian Federation’s unjustified and illegal invasion of a sovereign European state.

“The military and humanitarian assistance that Montenegro has provided so far is proof of the selfless support of the courageous Ukrainian people and the constant commitment to joint action against undemocratic principles,” the Defense Ministry stressed.

Further needs coverage will be considered soon in cooperation with the Ukrainian side and the partners to provide the necessary financial, humanitarian and military support.

In June 2017, Montenegro became the 29th member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

In October 2020, Montenegro received the first batch of JLTV armored vehicles manufactured by the American company Oshkosh Defense. The Armed Forces of this Balkan country became the first recipients of JLTV armored vehicles in Europe.

These machines were supplied to two declared infantry companies of the Montenegrin army, which is a priority of the Montenegrin defense development plan for 2019-2028.

In 2019, the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro announced the signing of a contract to purchase JLTV light tactical vehicles (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) with 4×4 wheeled formula from Oshkosh Defense for the Armed Forces of the country.

As a part of an intergovernmental agreement the contract to supply 67 armored vehicles was valued at $ 36.165 million.
