Germany plans to deliver 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine by the end of March.

Christine Lambrecht, Minister of Defense of Germany, announced this.

The German infantry fighting vehicles should arrive in the first quarter of this year.

German instructors will also train Ukrainian crews.

“We promised Ukraine that in the first quarter of 2023 we would supply 40 Marder infantry fighting vehicles, and we would also organize training,” Christine Lambrecht said.

Lambrecht’s statement came after she expressed concern that equipping Ukraine for fighting off a Russian invasion might lead to the German stockpile running out.

in a telephone conversation on January 5, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and U.S. President Joe Biden agreed to send heavy military equipment to Kyiv.

Germany announced its readiness to supply Marder infantry fighting vehicles and Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

Germany’s plans envisage that 20 vehicles will be delivered from the depots of the Bundeswehr, with another 20 being supplied by the arms company Rheinmetall.

“It was a very important signal for NATO, for our allies. We stick to our commitments, even under such special conditions,” Lambrecht said.

As previously reported, the German concern Rheinmetall offered to provide modernized Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, but the German government transferred them to Greece.

Then, instead of these German infantry fighting vehicles, Greece transferred from 20 to 30 units of its BMP-1 to Ukraine.
