Ukraine will receive Satcube terminals for satellite communications

The Swedish company Satcube will transfer about a hundred of its terminals for satellite communications to Ukraine.

The Swedish publication Dagens Nyheter reported this, referring to Sastcube CEO Jakob Kallmér.

According to him, Ukraine received the first terminals in early summer.

Satcube produces portable terminals weighing 8 kg for satellite communications that connect to the Internet via geostationary satellites. They are located at an altitude of 35 thousand kilometers.

Satcube offers a lower connection speed than Starlink – 70 Mbps versus 100 Mbps. However, communication with geostationary satellites is harder to jam.

The company is using the satellite network of the American operator Intelsat Ltd.

It was Intelsat that placed an order to purchase terminals worth about SEK 70 million ($6.5 million). The cost of one terminal is $65 thousand.

According to the journalists, Germany funded the terminals and will transfer them to Ukraine.

Satcube does not know exactly how its equipment will be used in Ukraine. But they don’t seem to be too worried about this, unlike Elon Musk.

“It could be anything from the field hospitals communication to the on-site communication support,” Jakob Kallmér said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Elon Musk’s SpaceX has provided Ukraine with over 40 thousand terminals connected to the Starlink satellite network.

They are faster than the Satcube, although the signal of the latter is harder to jam.
