Ukrainian National Guard Destroys Russian Armored Group With Rarely Protected BMP-2

A unit of the National Guard of Ukraine, “Hostry Kartuzy,” showed a defeated Russian assault group near Novooleksiyivka, which included an infantry fighting vehicle with rare protection.

It is reported that the Russian assault armored group tried to advance deep into Ukrainian positions.

The Russian assault armored group consisted of one T-80BVM tank made in 2023 and a BMP-2.

In addition to the traditional ‘grill,’ the enemy’s BMP-2 was additionally protected by a kit of 765-SB3KDZ armor.

The means of destruction of the Russian armored vehicles is not reported, but it can be assumed that FPV drones were used.

It is worth noting that BMP-2s equipped with the 765-SB3KDZ additional protection are quite rare.

The 765-SB3KDZ additional protection kit consists of polymer panels that are supposed to protect the vehicle from heavy machine gun fire, as well as a set of anti-cumulative grilles.

At the same time, polymer panels can have not only anti-bullet properties, but also provide some protection against cumulative ammunition. Together with the ‘grilles’, this can reduce the effectiveness of anti-tank grenade launchers to some extent.

This is not the first time that Ukrainian forces have clashed with armored vehicles equipped with 675-sb3KDZ kits. They have been used by the Defense Forces since 2022, but in small numbers. It is known that as of 2021, the Russian army has purchased a very small number of such kits—about 100. But it continued to produce them during the full-scale invasion.

In addition to the damaged Russian armored vehicles, a Ukrainian infantry fighting vehicle can also be seen on the battlefield, probably damaged and abandoned.

The exact affiliation and circumstances of the hit are unknown, but it looks similar to the Ukrainian modernization of the BMP-1, the BMP-1TS.

The BMP-1TS has been fitted with a new Spys-Synthes combat module instead of the old 73mm gun. This Ukrainian combat module is equipped with a ZTM-1 30mm cannon, a KBA-117 automatic grenade launcher, and has the ability to install a Barrier ATGM.
