A sniper of the Special Operations Forces (SOF) of the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a Russian ZALA reconnaissance drone with a sniper rifle.

This was reported by the press service of the SOF.

A drone, which conducted reconnaissance of the area, was found in one of the operational directions.

“The sniper confirmed his qualification, the UAV became the trophy of the SOF and will go for further study by specialists,” according to the press release.

Special Operations Forces operations

Recently, Militarnyi reported that operators of the SOF of the Armed Forces of Ukraine discovered and destroyed the enemy R-330 Zhitel electronic warfare system.

The enemy EW system was discovered in the Zaporizhzhia direction by the operators of the reconnaissance drone of the Separate Special Operations Center “East” (3rd Separate Special Purpose Regiment – ed.).

The SOF operators tracked an important target for some time and provided information to the rocket and artillery unit of the Defense Forces for further strike.

Earlier, it was reported that operators of the 3rd Separate Special Purpose Regiment brought artillery to the 1L219 Zoopark-1 radar.

A radar was discovered in the Liman direction by operators of a reconnaissance drone of the Medoid tactical group.

Judging by the specific interface, the detection and adjustment of artillery fire were performed by the Ukrainian Shark UAV.

Due to the specific aerial detonation of the ammunition, it can be concluded that the fire damage was inflicted by a GMLRS rocket from multiple rocket launchers—M142 or M240.

Sniper records in Ukraine

In early December 2023, it was reported that the Ukrainian sniper Viacheslav Kovalskyi broke the world record by hitting the Russian invader at a distance of 3800 meters.

The 58-year-old former businessman and sportsman, and now sniper of the counterintelligence unit of the Security Service of Ukraine, Viacheslav Kovalskyi, fired his shot shortly before dawn on November 18, 2023.

The shot broke the previous world-record hit of 3,500 meters set in 2017 by a Canadian sniper from Joint Task Force 2, who hit a target at 3,540 meters with a .50 BMG McMillan TAC-50 rifle.
