Upon the reports from Turkey, Romania has uncovered a mine in the Black Sea

A drifting sea mine was found off the coast of Romania this morning, on March 28th.

After the mine was discovered, the minesweeper “Vice Admiral Constantin Balescu” began the search operations in the area which is 70 to 72 km away from the shore near the towns of Corbu and Nevodari, said the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

Sailors from the Romanian fishing vessel Olympus-1 have spotted the mine early on March 28th near Capu Midia. The captain had reported it at 8:10 am, after which the naval authorities ordered a search operation in the area.

Upon receiving the report, the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Naval Forces ordered a search operation in the area where the mine was reported.

The minesweeper left the Constanta naval base at 08:20am, and started the search operation after arriving in the area.

According to the local media, the sea mine was neutralized six hours after it had been discovered.

Also, on March 28th, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the discovery of a mine in the Black Sea near the border with Bulgaria. The mine was neutralized.

As reported earlier, on March 26th, Turkey had blocked the movement of ships through the Bosphorus due to uncovering of a mine, allegedly one of those used by the russia to mine the Black Sea. The sappers had neutralized it, after which the navigation through the strait had been restored.

Previously, russia had mined the Black Sea areas near Ukraine and spread the information that these mines could reach the Bosphorus.

Russian sources had reported 420 mines placed in the sea.
