Volunteers have restored the captured BTR-MD “Rakushka” for the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces.

This was announced by Twitter user Padre.

The restored vehicle was reformatted for a sanitary vehicle, which will be operated by soldiers of the 79th Air Assault Brigade.

A message about the beginning of the restoration of armored vehicle appeared on June 23, 2023.

The work on the restoration of the “Rakushka” was funded by the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation, volunteers do not disclose its price.

In addition, a trophy BMP-3 can be seen at the back of the “Rakushka.”

According to the Oryx OSINT resource, the Ukrainian Defense Forces captured at least seven BTR-MDs “Rakushka.”

In total, according to Oryx, the Russians lost at least twenty BTR-MDs, which is a considerable figure, because as of 2023, the Russians had about a hundred such vehicles.

BTR-MD “Rakushka”

BTR-MD “Rakushka” is a floatable air-droppable armored personnel carrier created by the Kurganmashzavod JSC on the basis of BMD-4.

The armored personnel carrier weighs 13.2 tons and has light armor. The 450 horsepower engine provides 71 km/h of maximum speed by road.

In rough terrain, the vehicle can reach a maximum of 45-50 kilometers per hour.

Water jet propulsion system can provide water crossing at a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

The Russians have a specialized sanitary version called BMM-D “Traumatism,” it was jointly developed by Prybor-Control and the Volgograd Engineering Company.
